This image is made up of 1 medium format film scan of the sunset outside of my window. The image was scanned and then manipulated in Photoshop. I duped the image and reversed it so the 'land' area (in black) face each other. The binary code was added after and 'pinched' to give a sense of perspective.
"From an early age I can remember my Dad vanishing to the loft, a place I wasn't allowed to visit. After hours and sometimes days he would come down from the loft clutching a few black and white pictures and have a gratified smile on his face.
One day I was invited up to the loft on the condition that I didn’t leave for a while. I remember there was a strange smell in the air and the room was lit by a red light. There were all kinds of trays, equipment and discarded pictures struned over the counters.
After a while of paper dunking from tray to tray and the use of a strange apparatus which shone a light on to the paper, I could see, as if by magic, a picture appear!
It was many years later that my passion for creating imagery of my own would take hold. I originally began my career as a digital artist in 2000 after spending most of my twenties travelling, including 8 years in Hong Kong.
With the new technologies available to me today, my preferred tools are a digital SLR and a medium format film camera and of course the ubiquitous Photoshop."
Created with Bryce and Photoshop. Not my favourite piece but I like the colours and overall composition, perhaps lacking detail in some areas which I may need to address.
'Balutum' manifested while playing with hard and soft edges. I tried to create a sense of depth and space by overlapping 2 different perspectives with striking colours.
This is quite an old piece which I created back in 2003. I was experimenting with using layers in Photoshop to create a composition which although was busy, kept a sense of balance and editorial blank space to allow it to be used as stock.
I originally intended for this to be a stock image for Brand X Pictures, but I had a few beers and, well, as you can see I lost the plot a litle and it ended up more of an art piece than a stock image.
This is a close-up of a section taken from the oil on canvas as mentioned in the previous post. I added a few colour layers to increase the intensity and feel.
I created a huge oil on canvas a few years ago as a cathartic process to relieve some stress - as you do - and it's been hanging on my office wall ever since.
It was painted at a friend’s studio where it was strapped to a large wall with gaffer tape as no easel was big enough. It allowed me to let loose and really go for it without worrying about restrictions. I used untold amounts of paint (thanks Carol, do I owe you anything?) and a piece of rubber which I used to slap the raw paint on to the canvas with large sweeping strokes. I mixed colours together which gave an interesting 'oil like' affect.
This image is taken with my new Canon EOS 5D (oooh, brand dropping, no really, you should get one, exellent camera and it's stock agency lab approved). I changed to colours in Photoshop and also added a few layers to increase the intensity in areas.
I might get this printed as a Giclee and added to the gallery collections, what do you think?
This is an early piece which I liked at the time. I was trying to create a sense of depth and mystery by using multiple layers and light and dark shading, albeit a bit crudely.
'Phoenix Rising' is a modification of another piece, Draconis, which I wanted to elaborate on. I added the water to the composition and played with the overall colours in Photoshop.
